Yours Magazine 17th August 2005

I have just had a telephone call from David Frankish (who ran Ruby's Official Fan Club up to its closure) to tell me that the issue of Yours Magazine which is due out on the 17th of August is expected to contain a feature article on Ruby. The last article to appear in this magazine is posted in our ...

Using the News Archives

I hope you have been following (and perhaps enjoying) my history spot on the News Page. Some of you will remember, that a while ago, our "founder" Timmer very kindly gave me access rights to that page for the purpose of posting news messages. So I have been using it to re-create the events of the Go...

Hi Tim, as an addition to the website that John has given you, if you want more than the Number 1s, try the following:

http://www.everyhit.com/retrocharts/1955-FebruaryC.html

You can advance it forwards and backwards if you wish using the buttons at the bottom.

Re: Baffled by change

Hello Friends, Can someone tell me why I have now suddenly changed to being 'a guest' when I log on to the sight? Each time I look for my name and it's not there????? Tomorrow I go back to Geneva for an extended stay so I will be thinking up one or two 'teasers'. Adios Amigos. Bernie. Try this. Cli...

Re: The Teaser

Graham. Well done indeed - "Oh there's much more I could say, BUT THE WORDS KEEP SLIPPING AWAY". Go straight to the top of the class. I put a clue in earlier, did you pick it up and did it lead you to the answer? I had hoped that I might be able to hang on for just a little longer but I'm dealing w...

I am really confident this time - going for gold again.

This must be it "I'll come when you call, when you give me the word" sings Ruby, in my favourite song. So without "the word" she is short on words, yes?

I hope so, or it's demotion for me again, with no appeal.

I hope you meant that as both Graham and I have failed on the second question, we BOTH get demoted? If not, I shall appeal! In " If Anyone Finds This, I Love You " Ruby sings "I smiled at the note, then I tossed it aside" - that would make her a bit short on words, according to my reckoning. What do...

I have just listened to "The Humour Is On Me Now" and I think you are right, Graham. My money's on that song! For the other one, let me try a different tack. How about "Promises you made now are broken, la la-la la, la la-la-la la"? The title being "Promises Were Made To Be Broken" of course. I have...

I had a telephone call the other day from a lady fan who lives in Orkney, and she told me that her husband has tried to order this mysterious CD and was told it is only on sale in Ireland! Whether this is Northern Ireland or the Republic she did not know, but she has friends in both areas, and is go...

Hello John, and let me welcome you to the site as JK usually does this job for us! What a delightful tale you have to tell about "The Very First Christmas of All". When I wrote to Terry Wogan, I tried to convince him to play it on the grounds that the words just might remind people of the real reaso...

Thank you for this link, Brian - I have just posted a reply to it on the Whirligig website. It was, as you say, Ruby's ninth single, and I guess with it being released in November 1955, Columbia were aiming at the Christmas market for this release. With the report stating that it entered on the 10th...

I picked up a copy of HMV Choice while on a visit to Cheltenham today (you have done a good job, Brian, of typing out all the words!) Sadly, there wasn't a copy of the set, or indeed any other of Ruby's CDs, on the shelves. This surprised me, as somehow I had mentally categorised Cheltenham as being...

I have just spotted this CD for sale on Ebay, with a location in USA, so perhaps it has been released there.

Brian, as a result of this posting from you, I telephoned Gerry Stonestreet today, and have been able to order a copy from him. If anyone else is interested in having their own copy, then I am sure he will be pleased to sell you one. I told him that you had drawn our attention to the June issue on t...

Well done Graham! Have you been listening to all the CDs to get that one line? The line I actually had in mind was "no more memories" but the song title is absolutely spot on. This was one of Ruby's songs that I had not heard until I started collecting again, a few years ago. When I first heard it, ...
