Re: The Humour Is on Me Now

Hello Gerald, There were several artistes that recorded on the album that was made in Dublin. Milo O'Shea was one, there was a female, Brendan O'Dowda and an AN IRISH LILTER who did a track of 'LILTING'. It must be on one of the L.P.s that I let my daughter have. As you say it isn't on the Golden An...

Re: The Humour Is on Me Now

Just realised. . . . I think there is a 'Lilter' on one of Ruby's Irish L.P.s. I can't check this out because I have passed all of my collection of Ruby's L.P.s on to me children so I have no reference point. It would be the album that Ruby recorded 'live' in Dublin with Brendan O'Dowda. It also inc...

Re: The Humour Is on Me Now

Okay Timmer, here is another Irish term that is quite amusing - 'a Lilter'. He can be heard in the Irish bars, and as they say in Ireland "With his cap well down Kildare style" - (hiding his face so that he doesn't see his audience) and 'Lilting' ...Difficult for me to describe. It's done to a tune ...

Re: The Humour Is on Me Now

I have just thought of another expression that I remember hearing Ruby use. "Make sure that you dry under your 'Oksters" that means under your arms - (your arm pit). There are items of food that Ruby referred to which I think are possibly essentially Irish??? i.e. Tatty Farls. and Soda Bread. Once a...

Re: The Humour Is on Me Now

I must point out that I am guessing about the spelling of the phrase - 'A collinchy muffler'. It could well be spelt entirely differently. . .

Re: The Humour Is on Me Now

Hello Timmer - 'The Humour Is On Me Now' Other than singing the actual song I can't recall Ruby ever using the actual phrase herself. To me is smacks of Irish thinking but I personally interpret the phrase as = Being prepared - Being ready. There are other interesting 'Irishisms' For example, "Give ...

Re: Teresa Hart - Timmer's mother

Thanks TIMMER, . . . I'm flattered and highly honoured but I must emphasize that the whole operation is a combined effort, although there is a hard core of 'special' workers.

Muchas Gracias Senor.

I couldn't possibly attempt to top that - It's brilliant? . . . . It's 'Paddy' Riley I assume?

Re: Teresa Hart - Timmer's mother

As someone who has a direct interest in the Ruby Murray website, I'd like to join Gerald in wishing Timmer's Mother well. It's incredible to think that it was Timmer's Mother's interest in Ruby and her recordings that gave birth to this extremely well loved website. 'GET WELL SOON' Teresa, "We're Th...

Re: Ruby's Birthday Today!

Thank you John (Harris) for your posting remembering Ruby's Birthday. Incidentally, I still have a copy of a programme of the concert that Ruby did and you organised in Norfolk - light years ago.

Re: Ruby's Birthday Today!

Today is Ruby's birth date March 29th. I find it very hard to believe that Ruby left us 20 years ago. I haven't given up on the Blue Plaque that Ruby qualifies for.

Re: Memory Lane on Sunday with Ruby Murray!

As we all know Ruby's birthday is March 29th. With this in mind I have sent a request to Nick Muir at bayfm radio. Nick has confirmed that he will play my request next Sunday. I hope some Fans/Friends will listen in to this request. It will undoubtedly be a very sad day for me but hearing Ruby on ra...

Re: Ruby's grave

I recently discovered that a daughter of one of THE JONES BOYS who lives in Torquay, namely Katherine, has attended Ruby's grave and left some flowers there. I was delighted by the news and I'm very grateful to her. It is so very difficult for me to do the round trip these days. Going by train means...
