Re: Rubys Fontana Records

The remaining four songs that were only released as singles are now in the library. "I Can't Get You Out of My Heart" coupled with "Paper Mansions" was released in May 1967, and both of these songs are really lovely and sung beautifully by Ruby. I have always thought that if the first one had been r...

Sounds of the 50s BBC Radio 2

Typical! I was idly looking through the radio section of the Radio Times this morning and discovered that at 10.00 pm on Radio 2 on Monday evenings they have been running a series called Sounds of the 50s by Leo Green. Only this week was the last of 10 episodes. Has anyone been listening, because su...

Re: Memory Lane

Just grabbed a quick moment before going on holiday to have a listen to bayfm using the Listen Again feature. The programme for Sunday 19th July is now there and Ruby sings at about 1 hour 35 minutes into the session, with the dedication to Bernie following. She sings one of my favourite songs from ...

Re: Ruby radio Plays

Bernie has alerted me to the information that Colin played and talked about Ruby on his programme yesterday. I have just had a listen via the catch-up service and it is very good. He talks not just about Ruby but also Bernie and plays one of their favourite recordings as well as one by Ruby. If you ...

Re: Memory Lane this afternoon (Sunday)

Thank you Nick, I will have try at Listen Again at the end of the week. Thank you so much for helping to keep Ruby's lovely voice alive on the air.

I also via this Forum would like to send you my best wishes for your recovery from your recent operation.

Re: Lucky Star

Thank you Brian for letting me wallow in nostalgia! I was an avid watcher of Jack Payne's "Off the Record" and I think I remember that it was on a Monday evening. Being BBC I was able to watch it and since it featured a good selection of what was popular, my mum and dad were fans of the programme to...

Re: Lucky Star

Your post just above gave me the idea that we know the Radio Times has been archived, so I wondered if I could find the radio show that we have the recording from. I searched on Ruby's name, and selected the Light Programme and the Home Service, but I couldn't find anything that looked promising for...

Re: Lucky Star

Hello again, Brian. John, it was in fact thanks to Brian that we have a recording of "Lucky Star". It was copied from a recording made by a friend of his from the BBC. We think the announcer might have been Paul Carpenter in which case it may well have been a recording of the radio broadcast of the ...

Re: Rubys Fontana Records

Hello Bernie, you have just posted your message while I was in the process of uploading my own personal favourite from the Fontana records - "Rathfriland on the Hill". This completes the set of four songs that were missed from the Philips CD issued as "Reflections: When Irish Eyes Are Smiling". The ...

Re: Rubys Fontana Records

Good to know that you are enjoying these tracks. The next one is now available in the Songs section of the Library - "The Boys From County Armagh".

This is just a joyous song, written by an Irish expatriot one would guess from the words. Ruby as usual gives a very fine performance.

Re: Rubys Fontana Records

I agree with you, Bernie, on the balance - it seems to get better as the song goes on so I wonder if the recording engineer realised it but did not want to get everybody to do that take again? Song number two from this rare collection is now available - The Six Mile Song. This has a better a balance...

Re: Rubys Fontana Records

I have successfully uploaded a new copy of Ballyshannon and this works for me, so hopefully it will for those who wish to download a good copy of it. It is in the Library under Songs and I will place next to it the rest of the 8 songs not released on CD. What a beautiful song this is - it has been a...

Re: Rubys Fontana Records

Well it seems that we are not likely to get any kind of response about these missing Philips/Fontana records any day soon. The good news as you may have read in another thread is that I am now able to upload photographs to the library, so I should be able to do the same for music mp3s. Therefore, ov...

Re: Discovery of Unseen Photos of Ruby

Hi folks, Timmer has worked his magic on the Library and I am now in a position to upload things again :D I have used one of the photographs mentioned in this thread as a test case, and it has worked successfully, so I now look forward to uploading some more over the next couple of weeks. I have che...
