Thinking Today of Ruby,

Post by Bernie Burgess »

Hello Friends,

There are certain days in the year when Ruby is even more prominent in my/our minds and today is one of them. "Don't You Know That Todays March 17, it's the day for the wearing of the Green"

Happy St Patrick's Day to everyone,

Adios Amigos. Bernie.

Hi, everyone.
Happy St. Patrick's Day.
As I've told Bernie, I just missed being born on March 17. I just turned 68 at 10 minutes before midnight (British Columbia time) on March 16, so I was born between the "Ides of March" and St. Patrick's Day.

I have recently had a connection to Ruby's "Macushla Mine". My much loved dog Bailey, a Lab-Hound cross, died on December 29. In a moment of sadness, I thought of this song, and re-wrote the lyrics to express my remorse.

O, Bailey Mine
(from Irish song Macushla Mine, as sung by Ruby Murray, modified by RL, Jan. 2011)

The winds that blow south from Lake Huron
Come laden with the snow from Georgian Bay
Sure, I never thought you’d perish before me
O, Bailey mine, why have you gone away.

And when they reach the borders of our city,
And down our snowy streets and roads they blow,
To me it always seems a tearful pity,
That when I’m lonely here, you can’t come home.

I do not blame the winter winds for failing
To save my handsome hound another year,
Sure, my boy was eleven, and aging more and more each day,
O Bailey mine, when are ye comin' here,
When are you coming home.

Please understand. Ralph

Hello Ralph,

Yes of course I/we understand. It's amazing how the words of a song can touch you so very deeply. The words to that song are very moving. I had a great relationship with an amazingly intelligent Alsatian of mine called Heidi whilst living on the Isle of Skye. I was devastated when I lost her and when I visited the island a couple of years ago the first thing I wanted to do was to visit her grave which I carefully created with local stone and some kind sole had carved her name on a head stone, I was choked.

Good to see your name amongst the postings again Ralph. Have you yet seen the new documentary?

Hello Friends

I was hoping to be able to fly to Exeter today, seeing as it's an anniversary day, but I have to be with the eye specialist for a check on my new lenses, Fortunately my 'Guardian Angel' from The Flybe Customers Service Desk has come to my rescue once more. Becky is going to the crematorium for me to place my floral tribute and promises to take some photos. It's good to think that there are some kind hearted people around today. On the other side of the coin there are also a few unkind ones around which has meant that I only place a single red rose now due to the fact that a bunch of a dozen red roses went 'missing' after a previous visit. However my red rose will look a picture on Ruby's resting place and I will look forward to seeing the photos that Becky is going to take.

The message will be the same: - To. 'Ruby. . . My Precious Gem' - "No Matter What"

Hi Bernie,

Thinking of you today and also dear Ruby.

What a sad indictment of today's society that flowers can disappear from a cemetery.

Best wishes.

Martin

I have just uploaded to the Library a photograph taken of Ruby's gravestone during March.
This is one of the photographs taken by Becky and mentioned above in this thread by Bernie.

Hello Friends

I would have liked to have gone to the crematorium on March 29th. but I had to be with the eye Specialist in Alicante. He has given me two new lenses and needed to check that everything was okay. My long vision is fantastic now that the fog has been lifted but short vision is still in need of reading glasses, which I gladly settle for.

Thankfully the same Guardian Angel that came to my rescue when I was in severe difficulties during my last visit to the Crematorium came to my rescue once again. Becky, the young lady from Flybe Customers Services at Exeter Airport very kindly stood in for me and took a single red rose to Ruby's resting place. This very kind person renews my faith in the human race and I am pleased to say that Gerald has kindly uploaded one of the photographs that she took at the graveside, now I have two reasons to be grateful.

Hello Friends

I would like everyone to see a snippet from an email I had from Becky when I thanked her for her kindness in going to the Crematorium deputising for me by placing a red rose on Ruby's resting place. I find this rather touching.

"Your very welcome Bernie, am always there to help when i can. I seem to have a chat with Ruby each time ive gone up which ive never done before but i seem to come away feeling better. Im glad your ok, and am sure i will see you at some point" From Becky.

Johnny Mac.

Thanks Johnny, You are quite correct - It's great to know that there is a Guardian Angel out there who is willing to come to your aid when one is needed.
