Site info

Post by Jk »

Hello, some of you will have noticed that the site was down over weekend. Tim has put us onto a new server, and assures me that the Ruby Murray site will continue for years. I thank Tim for that. I would also like to point out that the library is not functional at the moment, but Tim assures me that all the data has been backed up, so that his good news. I find the site today is running very slow, but that could be because Tim is still working on it, and these things take time. :)
Regards
John.

That's all exactly correct! Well done. :)

The file library should work out just fine. I hope to have it fully restored by the weekend. I happened to see there were some exciting gems in there!

I apologize the move took so long. Hopefully we won't have to go through something like that again for a long, long time.

Warmest regards,

Timmer, your tireless work on this website is truly appreciated. I think we are all patient enough to wait for the job to be completed without you having to feel under any pressure from us to do so. There is certainly no need to apologise.

Many thanks from me.
Gerald

Hello Friends,

I posted the following message in the 'Administration' file this morning but I would like to make sure that everyone reads what I have said so I am posting the message again here,

Regards Bernie.

Hello Timmer, Hello Friends/Fans,

It is of course sensible to trim the Library wherever it is possible to do so, without losing vital pieces. I am in no way technical when it comes to computers and the website so I am content to leave it in the hands of those who are knowledgable in that area.

I must once again give my sincere thanks to Timmer for sustaining and providing us all with this now cherished website and to Gerald for carrying out sterling work with it's day to day operation. Quite obviously the Library should be reduced where possible, all that I hope for is that it will remain due to the vital part that it plays for us all, plus future viewers to the site whose numbers are still increasing each and every day. Incidentally, the viewing figures for the Plaque Unveiling has now passed 43000 which is very satisfying indeed.

It has become very noticeable that, just as we think that there is nothing more that can be added, along comes another project that stimulates increasing interest anew. I'd like to think that I personally have been able to contibute in this direction. May I remind everyone that the street naming plan is still ongoing and the next forward movement will come when the Planning department discuss street naming in a few months time. Let us hope that in future there will be a street in the area where Ruby was born and brought up with the name - RUBY MURRAY'S STREET a fitting and lasting tribute to RUBY.

My very best wishes to all Friends/Fans.

Thanks, all! :)

I foresee no need to trim the file library, although the content could be be organized with a more modern system. That will go on the "things to do" list after the file library has been restored. We should have the room to restore every single file.

Timmer,

I feel immensely relieved by your assurances. The library has almost become the heatbeat of the website so it plays a vital role. I am grateful to you Timmer.

To all fans and guests.

I have made this topic a Sticky topic, which means it will occupy the top slot until I change it back again. Some people may be getting concerned that there might be visitors who did not appreciate that this website is undergoing some work on it. Timmer is working at it to restore the functions of Library, and will probably have another look at the News page as it too has suffered in the move to a new server. Sometimes the website is slow to load, and this may also be something that he can look into.

In the meantime, the members can continue to exchange messages on this forum while we give Timmer the time to carry out his investigations, for which we are very grateful. Unfortunately, there is currently no way a guest or visitor can become a member, due to this facility having to be disabled a while back as a result of serious and pornographic spam attacks. This too will be addressed as soon as a solution presents itself.

I am sorry this situation prevails, but there are a number of very good reasons for it and we have to be patient while our good friend Timmer does his usual thorough job in putting it back in good order. We hope to be back up to normal working very soon.
Gerald

Hello Friends,

I have sent a private message to Timmer asking him, very politely, when he will be able to reinstate the troublesome files. I am hoping that he will be able to respond in the positive very soon. I also enquired whether there is a problem as to why he has not been able to reinstate and if he could let us know what that problem is. Let me add that we all are very much appreciative of his endeavours over the years and our hopes for the website will continue for many years to come.

Hello Friends,

I have had no reply from Timmer regarding the troublesome files so I must assume that there is an urgent problem that is preventing him from completing the 'tweaking' that he says is all that is required for the re-instatement of the 'Library' and the other 'out of action' files. I can only apologize on his behalf for the long delay which is causing so much inconvenience. I repeat the fact that he is a very busy man, which necessitates patience on our behalf, however I feel sure that Timmer will soon let us know that he has completed his 'tweaking' and that all files will be operational real soon.

Fans will be pleased to note that the traditional Christmas Home Page, with the falling snow and the five Christmas songs that Ruby sings so beautifully, is once more with us to enjoy :D

My grateful thanks go to Timmer for so kindly making time available to fix it for me to be able to make changes to the website again.

Christmas cheers to Timmer! :D

Well Christmas is over and I hope everyone had a good time celebrating the festivities and the New Year.

I have made a couple of small changes to the Home Page, while retaining the falling snow while I think of what to do for the spring. I am not suggesting that it is going to snow for the next three months!

As you have no doubt realised, it is not going to be an easy matter to get completed the two things we would most like Timmer to fix:

-- access to the Library again, for looking at its contents, and for allowing at least some of us to upload new contents. Bernie has a store building up of things he would like to share with us!

-- the ability for new members to be able to register and then post messages on the Forum.

I realise that both of these difficulties may discourage people from looking in here, but I ask you to please be patient while our good friend Timmer works out a way to get round the problems. We owe a tremendous amount to him for the work he has put in getting the website set up in the first place, and looking into all the little glitches that occur from time to time.

In the meantime, I will continue to work on a new idea for a Home Page to celebrate Ruby's birthday and the arrival of Spring.

With Best Wishes for 2012.
Gerald

Top marks on all fronts Gerald, the website looks great and is a credit to you and your tireless work. Let us hope that Timmer will soon complete the necessary 'repairs' so that we can all once again enjoy the facilities that the website provides. I have sent an urgent message to Timmer on everyone's behalf and I feel sure that he will take the necessary action soon.

There is news on the Street Naming project which I will post soon so watch this space.

Happy New Year to everyone.

Adios Amigos, Bernie.
