The new Song List page

I have just completed the start of the big exercise to bring the Song List page up to date, and I am very grateful to Brian Henson for having provided much of the information on recording numbers and their dates of release. I am sure to have made some mistakes, so please post a message when you find one.

I have used so far only the items in my own collection from which to type in all the details of all the songs recorded by Ruby. Since I do not have every recording issued, I know there are lots of gaps in the information, but I now invite everyone to help me complete the table.

For example, the classic LP "Irish and Proud of it" is not one I own (I did try to get a copy on Ebay, but somebody beat me to it!). Rather than me just input the details, which I can do, I prefer to ask anyone who has a copy to send in the information to this Forum, and then I will add it. There are also a number of EPs and CDs that are not listed, and maybe there are some recordings that were only released in America and Canada that are not there. Please send in the details from your own copy.

I would like to involve as many fans as possible in this exercise, so please may I set a rule? I suggest that even if you have several items to tell me about, please restrict yourself to just one new recording, with its list of songs. Then after you see this new information has been posted, let another person send in the next one. Also, if you see someone has already posted a list which you have, please don't send it in again. When there are no new postings and you still have one, then by all means send it in. It will be helpful if everyone could copy the format of my table.

This way, we will all get a chance to make a contribution, and also by everyone waiting for me to react to each one individually, I won't be deluged with lots of new lists! If you have a recording which nobody else has posted, you may like to keep an eye on this Forum to see when I ask for the next one.

So now is the time to go and get all your Ruby recordings out from where you keep them, and see if you have any of the ones I have not yet listed. Who is going to be first?

Regarding the list itself, you will see that it is in alphabetical order of the title of each song. In common with the norm for music lists, where a song begins with "A" or "The", it is listed under the second word of the title (I learned this from Brian!). Within each song, the entries are in chronological order. I have given the month of release where known, but if not, then just the year (if anyone can help with a month, then please send it in.) I also have one Capitol recording for which I do not know anything about the release date.

The list may be also used as a Discography using the "Find on this page" feature of your browser. Simply choose a compilation from the Source List, type it into the "Find" feature and search, and it will tell you one by one all the songs on that compilation.

Have fun!

This is fascinating! Your first list agrees with the one on the 2 on 1 CD which I have, but the number is not the one I would recognise. The one given in the CD notes is 33SX 1402, also released in 1962. I assume somebody else will have a copy of this one, so if so, please confirm. However, I guess this number may have been a mono recording.

Your second list appears to be the LP compilation for "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" plus 4 tracks taken from the "Proud of it" list. I guess this is to make the original 10" LP up to a full 12" one. But also released in 1962? I wonder if they were for different markets, eg UK and USA?

Anybody please have any ideas?

Anyway, as you have both of these LPs Graham, they undeniably exist, so I will add them to the Song List over the next couple of days. I will have to work out a way of displaying both mono and stereo versions of the same LP.

Thank you for your help.

Graham, I have now entered your two LPs into the table, so thank you for those.

I haven't yet done 33SX 1402 because I really want someone to confirm that it is a mono version of Irish and Proud of it, and that they have a copy.

So the door is open again for another person to send in something for the table..........

Hello Friends,

I have studied Gerald's updating of the song list. Once again, he must be congratulated for the many hours of hard work that has obviously gone into this project. His dedication to everything 'Ruby' has to be admired and I would like to congratulate him on undertaking such a mammoth task. I do sincerely hope that many fans/friends will chip in with data as it will show him that we all appreciate his work.

One small point of interest to me. The fact that the label on 'Heart' states that Ruby donated the royalties to an Arthritis concern??? I am completely bewildered by this piece of information because I always understood that the royalties were donated to the Heart Foundation. I well remember Ruby talking to me about this arrangement, even though it took place before I met her. There was also a slight hiccup concerning the tax situation on the royalties which became a talking point.

I wonder which story is correct? Is it possible that the wrong information went to the printers when the labels were being printed?

Any help that can be offered to Gerald will I'm quite sure be very much appreciated.

Adios Amigos. Bernie.

Hi Bernie, When Tim started this site back in 1999, "I think" we had a song list that was being put together by Tim, it did not have many songs in the list as the site was new, and only had two or three members, Gerald was one Tim's Mother and myself. Tim asked for anyone to send in names of records that Ruby had recorded, so he could build the song list up. I sent a few, including "Heart" which I said at the time that Ruby had donated all royalties to the "Heart" foundation, this was added to the list. I have search the site but it must have never been put back on during the changes, but I'm sure Tim will still have a copy of the list. Gerald also had his own page on the old site.

As Bernie has stated the record label clearly states that all royalties due to Ruby Murray from this record will be paid to the Horder Centres for Arthritics.

Gerald,if you want to update your list with this information the recording of "From The First Hello To The Last Goodbye should also indicate the Horder Centre For Arthritics as this was the reverse side of "Heart" and gives out the same information.

I did email you Gerald with further informaion relating to the recordings of"Irish And Proud Of It".........It seems that there could also be two other versions of this LP........If you go into album covers you will see that Brian has uploaded a cover relating to "Irish And Proud Of It" released by Capital and it has the added track of Softly Softly upon it.

Sandy has also added a cover of "Irish And Proud Of It"and although it could be the same as my shamrock series LP it seems to have a different back cover to mine........I regret you cant see the serial numbers relating to the recordings.

Perhaps you did not get my email Gerald or are you still in shock trying to work all this out(Best of Luck I know you can do it)

Best Wishes

Thank you for your kind words, Bernie. You are right, I have spent hours typing in all the new information, which is why I would appreciate it if somebody could take the time to check it all.

Not much support yet - only Graham has sent me any details to work with!

I borrowed the 78 rpm recording of "Heart" from Don, and I noticed then that the royalties were given away to the Horder Centre, so I made a point of noting down the words. Later, I saw John's entry in the old song list, but just assumed it was maybe a small mistake to assign them to the Heart Foundation. It seems that Graham agrees with me, but now I am left wondering if there was a change of plan at the last minute?

John, I have a copy of the old list on my computer, but felt that the new one should take its place, as it is more comprehensive. You did indeed say that the royalties went to the Heart Foundation, but see my comment above.

By the way, it is still possible to get to most of the old website, including the old Message Board. The route is via the News page (but of course the old Song List is no longer there).

No, I am sorry but I did not get your email, but anyway I have been away for a while - I will sort out what you are telling me and in the near future I will adjust the Song Page accordingly. Thank you so much for your help, I know I can't get the list complete on my own, and I do not want to just surf the internet for listings, because I know from past experience that they are not always correct.

I would like people to look in their own collections, and post a message here giving the record or CD number and the song listing, for those that are not yet included in the table.

Many thanks,

Further to your last post, Graham, I have now looked in our library and it is true that there are a number of records and CDs in the Album section which do not appear on my list. The problem with quite a few of them is that there is no complete song listing, or no record number, and perhaps no date.

I did assume that all those in our library would have come from the collections of people who look in here to this website, and therefore I would really love it if they would send in a message giving all the details they can about the record or CD from their own collection. That way there is no guessing on my part, or trying to read tiny print in order to see if there is a date of release listed.

So come on! Please follow Graham's good example and write in and let me know what you have that is not yet included. I can't believe that nobody has any EPs for example. Then maybe I can make more progress with the new song listing.

Otherwise, if you prefer, I can put back the old song list, as I still have a copy of it on my computer.
