Norrie Paramor

Post by Graham Bunn »

At the start of Rubys singing career she was taken under the wings of Ray Martin.

Ray had a great hit with "Blue Tango".

Norrie Paramor then took over from Ray and his orchestra he backed Ruby and many singing stars of the fifties and sixties.

I have been asked to try and find out if Norries orchestra ever made solo recordings and if so does anybody have titles?.

Best Wishes

Norrie Paramor

Post by Brian Henson »

Norrie Paramor had a couple of small chart hits in the early 1960s - a cover of 'Theme from A Summer Place' and 'Theme from Z Cars'. Although his early recordings hadn't been hits, he had cut many singles with his orchestra since the early 1950s. There is a nice compilation CD available of a selection of these tracks (although curiously it doesn't include the aforementioned 2 hit singles).

The CD is titled PAR-EXCELLENCE - THE SINGLES COLLECTION 1952-1961 and is on the Vocalion label, catalogue number CDLK4133.
The tracks are as follows:
1 Paramambo
2 Theme from Threepenny Opera
3 Penny Whistle Song
4 The Poor People Of Paris
5 Spanish Harlem
6 Autumn Concerto
7 Silly Billy
8 Enchanted April
9 Wedding Day
10 The High And The Mighty
11 The Melba Waltz
12 Luxembourg Polka
13 Mon Pays
14 New Baby
15 Melodia
16 Plink Plank Plunk
17 Magic Banjo
18 Blue Indian Summer
19 Marianina
20 Midinette
21 April In Portugal
22 The Song From The Moulin Rouge
23 Gina
24 Rip Van Twinkle
25 My Heart In Portugal
26 Hawaii
27 Ballad Of A Soldier
28 Half Pint

Hello Brian,
Thanks for the information relating to the C.D by Norrie Paramor.

I do have a Vocalion Catalogue for Spring 2005 Releases and thanks to you I have now found the C.D you refer to and it seems that it is still available.

If I can now find the one John indicated will have a good selection of Norries music.

I think if anyone is interested in nostalgia they should try and get hold of a Vocalion Catalogue I think that they are doing a marvelous job re-releasing some of the older material that the likes of I remember.

Best Wishes
Graham
